Michael Alexius Sarte, MD

At the Daniels Family Sustainable Energy Foundation, Dr. Michael Sarte leads clinical research on the human health impacts of heat stress and environmental change, with a particular focus on how rising temperatures affect respiratory health, sleep, and quality of life in tropical communities. His work helps translate the Foundation's cooling and energy-efficiency innovations into measurable clinical outcomes for the populations most vulnerable to the climate crisis.

Dr. Sarte is a board-certified otolaryngologist and sleep medicine specialist practicing in the Philippines, one of the world's most heat-affected nations. He serves as Chairman of the Department of Sleep Medicine at The Medical City in Pasig and as Medical Director of the Sleep Laboratory in the Department of Otolaryngology at Rizal Medical Center, a Philippine Department of Health institution. He is also an attending otolaryngologist and sleep specialist for the Corporate Health Services of San Miguel Corporation in Mandaluyong City.
 

Dr. Sarte earned his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, where he also completed his residency in Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at UST Hospital, following undergraduate studies in Biology at the same institution. He pursued advanced fellowship training in Rhinology, Sleep Medicine, and Sleep Surgery at the University of Ulm Medical Center and the University of Heidelberg in Mannheim, Germany. He is an active fellow of the Philippine Society of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine, and an international fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.
